Computational Analysis of Different Turbulence Models in a Vane Pump Simulation

The study presents a computational analysis of vane pump using two different turbulence models namely κ-ε and κ-ω. geometry characteristics the were obtained by disassembly further measurements. CAD model for domain was developed in SOLIDWORKS®. CFD modeling powered ANSYS®, which allowed evaluation mesh types models. A total set six simulations performed to obtain comparison schemes evaluation. Specifically, angular velocity excentricity varied within simulations. Both carefully validated manufacturer´s dataset as validation criteria, obtaining relative error less than 5%. κ-ω experienced best performance when describing flow variables, excepting pressure gradient. presented an accurate prediction edge effects, energy losses walls, turbulent viscosity. Notably, showed that density variations are not significant. Overall, demonstrated be robust tool gain insight understanding interactions operation.
